Statement
I used to love perusing websites for inspiration, but those days are closing down fast.
In my experience as a “nobody” little writer/photographer, I have discovered an artistic statement of sorts about me, which continually morphs. Created by AI, without my consent, these synopses come off like product pitches, and include false statements about my publication history. On the links to certain websites I have also found that the personal bio I submitted, which appears on the site itself, is replaced by an AI generated lead-in bio which is a mash up of a variety of information gathered about me online, which actually leads to falsehoods about what I publish.
Larger platforms are allowing AI to destroy the work of visual artists under the guise of “enhancement.” And Everything we have ever put online is fed into large language models racing us towards species extinction, if not in the literal sense, then most certainly in the spiritual sense.
I am glad I was around early enough to experience true community on many of the platforms I now shun, but we know where this train is racing, and it is time to hop off sooner than later.
On that note I continue to shave away at what I have online, including this personal website.
I leave you with Sean Astin’s comments to Congress for now:
