Statement

I used to love perusing websites for inspiration, but those days are closing down fast.

In my experience as a “nobody” little writer/photographer, I have discovered artistic biographies about me, which continually morph. Created by AI, without my consent, these synopses come off like product pitches, and include false statements about my publication history.

I must admit that when I first discovered these overviews, I couldn’t stop laughing at their exaggerations. “She has published several books of poetry and photography.” False! In fact, I have purposely avoided the formal (48 plus page) poetry book by major publishers, as I come from a DIY/punk mentality of small press loyalty and an aversion to contests and competition in the arts.

I then discovered a personal bio I submitted to an online journal, which appears on the site itself, being replaced by an AI generated lead-in bio which is a mash-up of a variety of information gathered about me online, and which again actually leads to falsehoods about what I publish.

You see where this is headed…

Larger platforms are allowing AI to destroy the work of visual artists under the guise of “enhancement.” And Everything we have ever put online is fed into large language models racing us towards species extinction, if not in the literal sense, then most certainly in the spiritual sense.

I am glad I was around early enough to experience true community on many of the platforms I now shun, but we know where this train is racing, and it is time to hop off sooner than later.

On that note I continue to shave away at what I have online, including this personal website.
